This lucky cat, or "maneki-neko", is a very common object in Japan, especially in the storefronts and near the cash registers.

Typical of the country, it is considered to bear fortune to those who possess it.

The posture and ornaments of the cat are very symbolic: its raised paw is supposed to attract the customers, the little hochet suspended from its neck hunt the bad spirits and the gold piece held in its other paw represent prosperity.

The color of the cat is also important: while in white it embodies purity, golden is associated with wealth.

We don't know about you, but on our side we're gonna keep some just in case...!
